How secure is it? Win-Pro's Virtual Tech (VT) includes a basic Data Stream Modification plugin mechanism. It has been designed in the hope it is fast, efficient and minimizes the data and CPU overhead due to data transformation. It allows anyone to write an external dll that can be loaded by both VT Viewer and VT Server. Then this dll has access to all the transmitted data packets and can consequently alter, modify, record, or encrypt the VT data stream during the connections. The DSM Plugin system is a "tunnel" for the VIRTUAL TECH VT connection: RC4 is a stream cipher designed by Rivest for RSA Data Security (now RSA Security). It is a variable key-size stream cipher with byte-oriented operations. The algorithm is based on the use of a random permutation. Analysis shows that the period of the cipher is overwhelmingly likely to be greater than 10100. Eight to sixteen machine operations are required per output byte, and the cipher can be expected to run very quickly in software. Independent analysts have scrutinized the algorithm and it is considered secure.
